Travis Kelce himself called his nomination for People’s Choice Award Athlete of the Year ‘nonsense’ so we can only imagine what he thinks about the fact he won the gong.
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end was the winner of Athlete of the Year at the People’s Choice Awards last night. The awards show invites the general public and fans to vote for the winners, setting it apart from other big nights across the year that usually have a closed-off and anonymous panel vote. However, in his podcast last month, Travis Kelce said it was ‘nonsense’ that he was up on the bill. Now, he’s won, but fans are saying it’s only because of his girlfriend Taylor Swift.
Travis Kelce called his People’s Choice Awards nomination ‘nonsense’

On his New Heights podcast, which the 34-year-old records with older brother Jason Kelce, Trav couldn’t get his head around it.
He called it “f****** nonsense”, as he was up against icons like LeBron James, Lionel Messi, Simone Biles and Coco Gauff.
The nominations were announced long before he and the Chiefs won the Super Bowl game last week.
In January, when discussing the nod, he said: “How am I on this?
“What did I do to get Athlete of the Year? I did ‘SNL’,” he laughed.
Despite this, Jason instantly asked fans to vote once per day to get Travis Kelce to win the People’s Choice Awards statue.
Singer Taylor Swift was also up for five nominations, coming home with four. However, the celebrity wasn’t able to attend the star-studded show because she’s in Australia for her next leg of the Eras Tour.
Travis Kelce also didn’t attend, so he would have been told of his big win privately.
It comes after the tight end apparently sent the music icon $16,000 worth of gifts to his girlfriend for Valentine’s Day last week.
Fans say it’s down to the Taylor Swift effect

Fans were happy with the results, with one Twitter user uploading a montage of some of Travis’ greatest moments in football.
And another wrote: “Big yeti for the win”.
And a third added: “Congratulations on your People’s Choice Awards!” tagging Travis Kelce in the post.
But others were convinced it was just because he’s dating Taylor Swift.
Someone said: “Power of Swifties,”, while someone else penned: “Annoying athlete of the year,” clearly not a fan.
“Had one of his worst season but, ok,” claimed a skeptic, before someone else called the star a “nepoboyfriend”, playing on the term of nepo babies – children of celebrities.
